Rare Metal Thermocouple
Generally, precious metal (platinum) thermocouples are most stable with high temperature in comparison with base metal type thermocouples.
TYPE ‘R’ Thermocouple
Type R thermocouples are recommended for continuous use in Oxidizing or inert atmosphere at temperature up to 1400°C intermittently up to 1600°C. They should not be used in reducing atmosphere. These are available in standard wire diameters of 0.33 or 0.45mm.
TYPE ‘S’ Thermocouple
Recommended for almost the same application as type R.
TYPE ‘B’ Thermocouple
This combination Platinum thermocouples is made from Platinum-Rhodium 30% and Platinum-Rhodium 6%. When they are compared to pure platinum thermocouples they sudder less from the effect of ' Rhodium Migration' and may be used at some what higher temperature, continuous operating temperature 1550°C upto 1800°C intermittently.
